We have this at our campsite in the Hill Country. Elevation is at 1900 feet. We have it nailed to a tree. We get our water from an aquifer & it is cold when it comes out of the ground. This water heater does the job. It takes seconds to get the water hot! We have it set on eco, gas set to minimum, water to max. Nice hit showers now. We also have hot water for our dishes now.
I'm building a tiny home inside a portable building and need a shower till I've got one tiled and plumbed. This unit is amazing. I hooked it up to a splitter and a shut off valve plus 30 lb LP. Run it at 108 degrees and I'm happy!
This thing is super easy to hook up and even easier to use. Just hook up the water supply either with a garden hose or conventional pipe fittings, attach a propane supply and a couple of D cell batteries. Then all you have to do is turn on the water like you would at home...The heater starts and stops all by itself based on the water demand (when the water is flowing it is heating it and when it stops it shuts off). That easy. We use it for our off grid bath tub. IT ROCKS! and fills the tub quickly with water that is so hot we have to cool it down before we jump in. The unit is about the size of a carry on suit case and kinda heavy. Calling it "portable" is a bit of a stretch but the ease of hook up makes up for its bulkyness. This thing delivers very hot water even at sub 40 degree winter inlet water temp (although the flow needs to be reduced a bit to get it up to bath tub water tempature up higher due to the cold air temps cooling the water faster as it sits in the tub quicker than in the summer months). Do not ask me about its efficiency because the last thing I am thinking about as I slip into our romantic out door tub full of hot water, with my painfully beautiful wife sitting naked at the other end of the tub is how much propane I used....
Awesome!I did not use the directions for hook up. So easy and no issues. Package included every fitting and washer I needed. I did use tape on all threaded parts. I had hot water running in about 45 mins.(Warning!) The hot water can reach scolding temperatures. Adults should be present when shower is use by children.)Heater is hooked to a hydrant and propane tank.Instant hot water.I have been taking 20 minute showers everyday twice a day since delivery. Turn on gas, turn on water and notice where the temp is. Adjust a little and ENJOY! No different than your furnace, have to adjust ths thermostat. This product is rock solid! I love this on demand water heater! I bought it to give our show pigs and horses a nice warm bath and for personal use. I mounted it to a dolly so it is mobile. This right here, is a game changer!It took some work to make the fittings leak tight and find the right adapter for the water hose. I picked up an RV pressure regulator, took the fitting from the packaging for the unit and tried various adapters at the store. It works great!
Got this thankless water heater setup in about an hour, and had hot water right away. Very simple to use and a few knobs for adjustments. Big upgrade from the tank water heater I has previously.
I purchased this tankless water heater to use outside for bathing our horses. My husband installed it to the side of our barn with ease, very easy to get up and running. Our water is very cold coming from a well, this water heater heats it up fast and very hot, we don’t come close to setting it on the highest setting. The water pressure coming out of the heater isn’t great compared to the pressure going from the faucet but it still does the job. Also the water heater is very quiet when it kicks on and off, I was a bit worried about that being it is near to horse wash rack and the last tankless heater we had was very loud when kicking on and would startle the horses. We also always drain the tank with the drain plug at the bottom of the tank, this way we can leave it out on the wall year round. I would highly recommend this tankless water heater! The picture I posted is during the install, we now have it more permanent but this give you an idea how easy it can be to set it up and use it.
We live off grid sothis unit was perfect. I'm starting out with 5 stars because 1, the water heater arrived undamaged, 2 the included fittings to go to garden hose worked perfectly with my Shark bite push in fittings and so the install went pretty much flawless. 3, it turned on and heated my water so there's a plus when the 2 previous models (not camplux) were DOA.This unit heats water great, the 20 min shut off is a bit short but hey 20 mins with hot water is better than. One of the key components of creature comfort bliss off grid in the forested Appalachian foothills is HOT WATER.Over the years we have tested and used many makers of on demand hot water heaters. Through attrition we are now exclusively using those made by #Camplux "Enjoy outdoor life".A few weeks ago while relocating one of the heaters I hastily put a wrench on the gas inlet fitting and turned, breaking the housing it was attached to. All my fault. The lesson of Smooth is Fast and Slow is Smooth is a lesson I keep getting the opportunity to learn.I contacted Camplux - long after the warranty had expired and sheepishly asked advice (ie: can I buy this big integrated integral part I broke? They graciously and without blame language asked if I was capable of replacing the part if they sent one for free!! :) humbly I said, I'll give it a shot ;). They said the shipping is cheap, we'll send it today! Wow. Then they've continually followed up asking if I needed any support. Gosh. These guys are great. For my backyard hot tub set up I built a shower and it's fantastic. I've been using this tankless water heater and I would give a higher rating on it if I could because it works so well. Consistently and without issue. It's very high quality.I had questions about the fitments and needed some recommendations, their technical support team was confident and helped answer all my questions. My set up is perfect. Nothing like a nice hot outdoor shower after a run, Or confidence knowing no sweaty teenage child is contaminating my crystal clear hot of water!!! MANDATORY SHOWER BOYS!!
4 stars because it showed up damaged, external dent on the bottom (pictured) ended up working fine though. Maybe a little better packaging? called in and tech support handled it fine, said I could send it back if it needed up not working after opening. I used this heater to fill a 5,200 gallon pool. Our tap water is very cold, about 45 deg F. and is not swimmable at that temp and would take all summer to warm up up here in Alaska. I pretty much torture tested this thing on the first filling. Used up 6, 5 gal bottles of propane and ended up with a full pool and water about 75 deg F. worked excellent. The 20 minute safety timer was a little annoying but we just set a timer and switched it back on after it shut off. It ran pretty much continuouse all day long with no problems. Also put in an outdoor shower and it supplies that with excellent hot water. Currently I ordered a pump that can recirculate the water from the pool to the heater, it’s a 4.9 gpm at 60 psi. If you want a poor mans pool heater set up this is it! I can raise the poool temp about 4 deg F with a 5 gal bottle of propane on a 5200 gal pool. Filling it from empty I can take 45 deg tap water and turn it into 5200 gal of 75 deg water with 6, 5 gallon propane bottles.(a metric I wish I had before ordering) I will probably order another one of these heaters for next year so I can double my BTU input. Some comments asked about heating pool water and the effect on the longevity of the heater... I do see some crystals forming probably from the chlorine being heated, but at the comparative price of a pool heater, even if I have to buy one of these every couple years I’m coming out ahead $$$ wise. I’m handy and can probably flush it with some serious scale remover and restore it to full flow, if flow gets impeded, which it has not been to date. Over all I must say I’m impressed with this little unit for the price and the unusual application I purposed it for, which has worked out wonderfully.
After taking 4 minute military showers, (where you wet down, soap up,quick rinse)as I'm a full-time r.v er. I consider this to be one of the best purchases I've ever made. I did buy the 2.1 gallon at first. Just too small for my application but this 4.2 is fantastic. to be honest I think that 3 gallon per minute would work for an RV, but I'd rather go big than to be disappointed.
We purchased our BW422LP directly from CampLux. Tech support was very diligent in contacting us repeatedly (phone tag over three days with persistent troubleshooting help) when we couldn't get the heater to work properly and it turned out to be a fluke with the BBQ LP tank we were using. Switched tank and it worked fine. Odd - the first tank worked just fine on an outdoor griddle with high BTU rating. Anyway, after two weeks of use without tugging, twisting, pulling, or otherwise abusing it - the free accessory shower hose failed with a lateral blowout. This happened with a maximum inlet water pressure of 60 PSI. We attribute this to just a random material failure. Well be switching to a longer and more flexible garden hose for the hot water outlet as soon as I can find one that fits the British threads on the adapter. Water flow must be constant to achieve a consistent temperature, so short bursts for filling a small container or a quick rinse on a horse may give you an unwanted temperature. However a small container won't kick you if it doesn't like the sudden difference in water temperature... Always test the water temp before using it on anything (inanimate or otherwise) that would be sensitive to an unexpected change to hot or cold.
The water pressure is second to none. I have tried other brands and this is the only brand that actually feels like a shower.I had a slight issue with a leak that developed and the support team provided excellent customer service! 10/10 would recommend.
My cabin is off grid and I use this to heat my hot tub. A small pump moves the water into the heater and it fires up instantly. Pretty amazing considering the heater uses to "D" batteries.
This unit is so nice, you can turn down the heat so low it will shut off but if you want it hotter it will fire right back up. I also love the Fahrenheit display instead of Celsius. Instant heat and unit is pretty big but easy to use. I'm happy with this unit so easy to hook up and use.
Hook this up to a propane tank like your BBQ uses, and this guy heats water like a charm. Have to have a big bucket or tote of water for it to use, but it does a good job heating the water. No more cold showers. Would probably work well in an off grid cabin or something, hooked up to a more reliable water source. Be careful, the water can get SUPER hot if you're not careful.
Well made. Includes everything you need for basic installation. Water gets HOT, so plan accordingly. I'd like to eventually use this in an off grid situation, so I'll need to figure out a way to pump the water, but this is a great heater with a decent spray wand for using as a shower
Made a few adjustments to convert this for my trailers hot water system for restroom and sink instead of the 6 gallon water heater that needed replacement. Used a venting B vent piping after using 4 self tapping screws to connect the vent pipe. It is short so it does not effect the venting. Used short swivel end for the hose so any hose can easily be attached. Great item.
We were amazed at this tankless water heater! Set up was pretty easy, and as long as you have a water source, propane, and batteries, you're set. The water heats quickly, and this unit is really solid and well-built.
I bought a year ago. 7 months in leaks out of the intake rubber gasket diaphragm. Warranty is a joke dont bother. If your gonna buy a instant hot water heater buy 100-160 dollar one. The internals are identical to this higher priced one. All china built. Good luck.UPDATE: After my above review the company reached out to me and asked about my unit. After a few pics of the leak they sent me a brand new hot water heater. That is what I consider top customer service. Thank you Camplux.
This thing is a beast. No need for camp/army showers with this. Once it comes up to temp you have unlimited hot water and full pressure like a house shower. Once I got the flow and temp initially dialed in I haven't had to adjust the controls.I'm now thinking of ways I can plump this into our camper for unlimited hot water, instead of army showers with the 6 gallon tank water heater.
This off-grid tankless water heater is built like a tank. It is constructed with quality materials and workmanship. A lot of thought was put into its design. It is easy to set-up; it requires 2 D batteries, a propane tank and of course a source for water. This would work perfect if you have a cabin that is off grid, or if you go on camping trips with a lot of people; this unit can accomodate a lot of shower usage. We are using it at our shop where we do not have a hot water tank but need hot water for outdoor showering and washing dishes. Our handyman added some heavier duty brass connectors with shut-off capabilities to our set up and it works great. I would highly recommend this portable hot water heater. It's great!
Used during a septic system failure. Maybe not as high a pressure as some in the family liked but was able to get hot showers at home in back yard till septic was fixed
Would've given 5 star, but two things that I was displeased with. 1.) this did not have a handle for carrying or hanging like others. 2.) regulating the heat is a bit cumbersome. We use this for a shower at our property in the woods. First weekend 5 people showered twice a day. We set the temp the first morning and all 5 of us had great hot shower. The evening was a little problematic, we had to change the settings it was cold then super hot. That is my only real issue, I was hoping to set it and forget it, but you need to adjust it every time to ensure no scalding or freezing. I would recommend this product it does work great once adjusted.
Bought two of these and been using them for past two years. Two issue to watch for...1. I take my showers at 118-121 degrees. However, if the wafer temperature going in is too cold, the unit starts acting strange and will shut down. I estimate it will take the water up about 70 degrees, so if source water is below ~50 degrees, it will not heat it up enough.2. When the unit hits the limit of being about to heat the wafer due to being to cold, the unit will start shutting on and off rapidly as it tries to reduce the pressure to keep the temperature up. If you turn it on with really cold water fir the source, it will not start up unless you reduce the flow by placing with the knob on right.Simple design, good price, but not very good if the source water is below 50 degrees.
My wife owns a salon. Long story short I paid right at $700 last year for a mobile water heater for my wife's side hustle salon in New Jersey. It worked OK she said and she forgot to drain the water long story short it froze busted the unit and is not warranted of course because you're supposed to drain it. I was trying to buy the same exact one they couldn't overnight it so I found this one sent it to New Jersey had it there in one day my wife hooked it up she said it's the same exact thing but she likes it better easier controls or something.This one was about $400 cheaper!! I did purchase this one because the picture looked similar to the other wish I would've seen this one before but I thought pay more money to get a better product that's not always true. Lesson learned. This is a good product and is much cheaper
Other brands don't have all the necessary fittings included, no customer phone support, and worst of all, they burst into flame on first lighting. (Tell me that wouldn't scare you to death with your horse on the other side of the wall!)
Replace my tank water heater with this tankless water heater. I installed it in an outdoor enclosure. It has plenty of hot water for me and I can turn the heat up way beyond what needed. So far I am really glad I purchased it. My heat is set on about 118. The temp seems to be stable.Awsome!
Don't waste your time buying anything other than this unit We have tried others as we have no hot water in our house ( fire damage) this unit is hands down the most efficient, reliable, and easy to use unit we have purchased.
